Celtic Freeport launched at Milford Haven and Port Talbot

Celtic Freeport launch boosts growth and clean energy missions - GOV.UK

5 September 2026 · Liberty Lux News

The Celtic Freeport is now formally launched at Milford Haven and Port Talbot. The two ports sit in one tax site covering clean energy, fuel terminals, heavy engineering and steel in south-west Wales.

The UK and Welsh governments put the package at about £8.4 billion of investment, 11,500 jobs and £8.1 billion of GVA if the full business case is approved. A further £26 million of UK money is tied to that case. The freeport opened for customs business in November 2024 and was launched in Cardiff with Jo Stevens and Rebecca Evans.

Inside the boundary, firms can get tax reliefs and customs exemptions. Evans said the rates retained on new development can go back into infrastructure and skills in Port Talbot and Milford Haven. Luciana Ciubotariu, the freeport chief executive, listed live schemes already inside the fence: LanzaTech aviation fuel, RWE’s Pembroke green hydrogen, the Milford Haven CO₂ project, Haush at Pembroke Dock, and port work at Port Talbot.

That is a Pembrokeshire and Neath Port Talbot story. It does not belong on a Mid Wales hero, and it is not a cookie banner.
